Doubling your tenner going well

Home-Start Slough & Burnham would like to thank those who have donated through Localgiving.com’s ‘Grow your Tenner’, where for every £10 raised, the website matches it.

So far, the charity has raised nearly £270 in less than a fortnight, which includes the match donation and gift aid. This will be an incredible help for the charity to keep on supporting vulnerable families in the community.

You do not have to donate an entire £10 – every penny counts. If anyone would like to donate, they can do so by clicking onto www.localgiving.com/homestartslough There is still money in the website’s pot for matching, but once it’s gone, that’s it.

The extra £270 received so far will mean Home-Start Slough and Burnham could help:

  • 54 isolated families attend its weekly family support group (£5 per visit) or
  • 27 Home-Start volunteer’s first visit to a vulnerable family (£10 per visit) or
  • it could provide one family with support from a trained volunteer for seven months (£35 per month).

It costs more than £180,000 a year to just maintain the charity, and there are still many more families in desperate need of our help.

Fundraiser, Samantha Daynes, said: “We would like to thank those who have donated for their generosity and kindness.

“Our belief is, if we can reach the parent, we can reach the child.

“At Home-Start, we support anyone, regardless of their background. No one is immune to their lives being turned upside down, and this can be caused by anything from mental health issues, post-natal depression, all the way to financial hardship and bereavement.

“Donations like the ones we have received will help us continue our vital work in supporting, guiding and caring for local families.”

For every donation up to £10, Localgiving.com will double it, so a tenner becomes £20, or £22.50 with Gift Aid and £5 will become a tenner. Monthly donations will double up to £10 a month for six months.

Home-Start Slough helps parents, with at least one child under five, who are suffering from stress and difficulties ranging from mental health issues, physical or mental disability, financial deprivation, family breakdown, single parenting, multiple births, abuse, neglect or isolation.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, providing practical help, emotional support, friendship and fun to parents who are struggling to cope and who, for whatever reason, aren’t getting the help they need.

If families crumble, communities disintegrate and children suffer. That’s why our volunteers work with parents at home to help them cope with the stresses and strains of parenthood so they can be stronger and their children can be happier.

If people would like to donate more than £10, it would be great if they could do it in £10 lots – otherwise a £20 donation at once will only be doubled for the first tenner.
