Help a local family

Home-Start Slough is calling all residents to help double its money from Tuesday, October 15, so the charity can carry on providing vital help for parents like Tinaz Chacha.

Tinaz's triplets

Tinaz’s beautiful triplets

Tinaz, aged 42 from Langley, welcomed triplets, two girls and one boy, in December 2011 and already had a three-year-old son. Suddenly, with all her family living abroad, her husband at work and four children, she found herself very isolated and stuck in her own home.

That’s where Home-Start Slough came in.

Tinaz explained: “Despite being a mum already to my three-year-old son, having triplets really threw my routine out and I found myself becoming isolated in my own home. It was recommended to me to speak to someone at Home-Start Slough to see if a volunteer could come and help me.

“At first I was a little wary, as I am a strong woman who never asks for help, but I decided to go ahead and meet with the volunteer.

“I found out Home-Start not only provided a volunteer to see you at home once a week, but that there was also a play group where mothers and children can get together.

“My volunteer, who was a wonderful person, came with me for the first two visits to the play group and park in my area. I also went to the play group organised by Home-Start Slough on my own, as I knew there were lovely staff who helped me with the triplets.

“Since I joined the group, I haven’t looked back. The volunteers there are just fantastic, and I go to the group to see them as much as for my children to socialise. I can also meet other mums, which has helped me create my own network of friends and support.

“Home-Start Slough helped me to get into a routine with the triplets, get out of the house and meet new people. I would urge anyone wishing to give to a charity to donate to this one, as they help many families and are for local people.”

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, providing practical help, emotional support, friendship and fun to parents who are struggling to cope and who, for whatever reason, aren’t getting the help they need.

So on Tuesday, October 15, Home-Start Slough will be taking part in ‘Grow your Tenner’ where for every £10 raised, the website will match it. This will help the charity continue its excellent work helping local families.

That means all donations up to £10 will be doubled, so a tenner becomes £20, or £22.50 with Gift Aid and £5 will become a tenner. Monthly donations will double up to £10 a month for six months.

Home-Start Slough helps parents, with at least one child under five, who are suffering from stress and difficulties ranging from mental health issues, physical or mental disability, financial deprivation, family breakdown, single parenting, multiple births, abuse, neglect or isolation.

If families crumble, communities disintegrate and children suffer. That’s why our volunteers work with parents at home to help them cope with the stresses and strains of parenthood so they can be stronger and their children can be happier.

The charity helps anyone, regardless of background
