Home-Start Slough (HSS) has received a whopping cheque for £13,750 thanks to money raised during the bi-annual GX Fun Run, held in May.
HSS was one of two charities chosen to take part in the 5K race held at Gerrards Cross, which has been organised to raise much-needed funds for small charities.
A total of £29,000 was raised on the day, with 1,400 runners attending, 200 children joining in the youngster’s races and 55 accompanied dogs.
Home-Start Slough helps parents, with at least one child under five, who are suffering from mental health issues, physical or mental disability, financial deprivation, bereavement, family breakdown, single parenting, multiple births, abuse, neglect and/or isolation.
Last year, our 70-strong team of specially trained home-visiting volunteers provided non-judgmental, life-changing support to nearly 100 vulnerable families in the area, with many more needing our help.
Ben Blackden, Chair of Trustees for Home-Start Slough, said: “We are very grateful to the organisers of the GX Fun Run for choosing our charity to take part in the fun run and receiving such wonderful funding.
“The money raised will go a long way in helping our vulnerable families in Slough and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part and donated.”
Sue Hatrick, Chair of GX Fun Run, added: “The fun run committee are delighted to have raised £29,000 for our designated charities this year. It was a fabulous day and we would like to thank all of our sponsors, the runners, and everyone who participated in the family attractions.
“This event would not be possible without the help and support of the local community and businesses. The GX Fun Run is about having fun whilst raising money for charity. The next GX Fun Run will be in May 2016. Visit our website for information and photos of the day.”
