HSS is calling on residents and businesses to help them raise £20,000: £1,000 for every year they have been helping vulnerable families in the Slough area.
Since HSS started in 1996, it has helped more than 3,000 children by providing support to their parents to give their children a better start in life.
Typically these families are hard to reach, isolated and disadvantaged. It is the most established charity in the area offering outreach and long term one-to-one support to families in their own home.
More than 60 volunteers give up at least three hours of their time every week to provide emotional and practical support to a family in need.
One mother said: “Without Home-Start I wouldn’t be able to call myself a good mother to my son, but due to the charity’s love and kindness, I have become more confident in my ability to be just that.”
Lesley Michaelis, Chair of Home-Start Slough, said: “We are a vitally important charity and deliver transformational changes to people’s lives. We are providing support to families focused on the early years, the most crucial time in a child’s development. This enables our parents to give their children the best start in life. Time and time again, our families tell us of the difference that Home-Start Slough’s support has made to their lives”.
We have exciting plans for our future – building on our credibility, capabilities and understanding of the key needs of Slough we are addressing some very specific needs of the community, such as health inequalities and mental health.
As with all charities, gaining funding continues to be a key focus to enable us to continue our work. We are determined to raise £20,000 this year in celebration of our 20 years in Slough.
We will be holding a number of events throughout the yea, as well as calling on the public and businesses to organise fund raising events on our behalf and donate to us as generously as possible.
Please help us achieve our target and enable us to continue our much needed work. HSS helps up to 100 families a year, however, we know that at any one time there are more than 350 families that need our help and support.
To help the charity achieve its £20,000 target, you can either donate online, send a cheque to the office or organise a coffee morning with friends to raise much needed cash. Whatever you do, you will be making a huge contribution to the families now and for the future.
